Top 3 Favorite Teas | For Health and Wellness

Here are three great tea blends that I've really been enjoying lately. The ingredients are very simple to source. I chose one for morning, midday, and evening so it'll be easy to work one or more into your day. Happy brewing!

 


Shining Star

Start your day with this warming brew of black tea, orange peel, and cinnamon. Like other citrus varieties, orange peel carries an uplifting scent. We all know oranges contain vitamin C, which not only improves immune system function, but can also prevent cellular oxidation, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and improve eyesight. Yay for oranges!  Drinking a cup of Shining Star tea first thing in the morning sets the tone for the day. Make yourself a cup anytime you need some mindfulness-in-a-cup or want to enhance your mood naturally.

Ingredients:
3 parts black tea
1 part dried orange peel
1 pinch of cinnamon

Directions:
In a kettle, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Remove kettle from heat and allow to cool for 1 minute. Mix in the above ingredients and allow herbs to steep for 5-10 minutes. Pour through a mesh strainer into cup. Sweeten if desired and enjoy!

 

 


Power Potion

This tea blends the properties of mint leaves, rose petals, and earthy thyme. Mint can calm an upset stomach, relieve a headache, and is being researched for her effectiveness in treating IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome). And of course, mint has wide applications in aromatherapy, particularly to promote energy and clarity. Enjoying this brew at midday can deliver the push you need to stay balanced, grounded, and focused.

Ingredients:
2 parts mint (spearmint, peppermint, or a blend)
1 part rose petals
1 part thyme

Directions: 
In a kettle, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Remove kettle from heat and allow to cool for 1 minute. Mix in the above ingredients and allow herbs to steep for 3-5 minutes. Pour through a mesh strainer into cup. Sweeten if desired and enjoy! I enjoy this one sweetened with honey and over ice during the summer months.

 



 


Lucidi-Tea

For the dreamers and the mystics, there is Lucidi-Tea. Lemon balm is praised for her ability to counteract depression, to balance the emotions, and to bring a good night's sleep. While damiana can boost mental stamina, she is valued as an aphrodisiac by the cultures of Central and South America and the Caribbean. This little gem is a blend of herbs and flowers to incite vivid imagery and lucid scenarios during your next voyage to dreamland.

Ingredients: 
2 parts lemon balm
1 part hibiscus
1 pinch of dried lavender
1 pinch of damiana
1 pinch of peppermint leaf

Directions:
In a kettle, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Remove kettle from heat and allow to cool for 1 minute. Lightly grind the above ingredients together with a mortar and pestle. Transfer blend to a mesh strainer, muslin bag, or tea ball and allow to steep for 5-10 minutes. Sweeten if desired and enjoy!
